Description
Canada has deployed soldiers to erect tents near the U.S. border to temporarily house hundreds of asylum seekers crossing from New York state. The influx is mostly Haitians prompted by fear of deportation by the U.S. government, according to Canadian officials. Around 250 asylum seekers are arriving each day in Montreal, the largest city in Canada's mainly French-speaking Quebec province. The Olympic Stadium, a former hospital and a school are among places used to house the influx of people. Heated tents are being placed near the border to also offer shelter for those seeking asylum. The country is attempting to downplay false reports that it automatically grants residency to those who enter the country. Government data shows that Canadian authorities accepted 50.5 percent of the 410 refugee claims by Haitians heard in 2016. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/t... http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
