From time to time, in "The Dark Tower," glimpses what might have been: the ambition of the narrative, it could have been the pop mythology, gender grouping could have been. Based on the Stephen King series, the film is an unpleasant hash of movie clichés which, after much scurrying and blathering, returns in a generic shoot'em-up. On the only thing that holds it together is Idris Elba, whose irrepressible magnetism and solidity of stone man anchors this mess but can not redeem it
