Description
(10 Sep 2017) Cartagena residents came out to cheer on Pope Francis as he wrapped up his last day in Colombia on Sunday.Francis is ending his Colombia trip with a deeply personal final day Sunday honouring St. Peter Claver, a fellow Jesuit who ministered to hundreds of thousands of African slaves who arrived in the port of Cartagena to be sold during Spanish colonial times.Like Claver, history's first Latin American pope has insisted on ministering to society's most marginal. Francis prayed at Claver's tomb after laying the foundation for new residences for homeless people in Cartagena, the city famous for its UNESCO-awarded colonial centre but also home to slums and shanties. He then visited the impoverished neighbourhood that bears the name of his namesake, San Francisco. You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
