Much of South Sudan is at risk but it is the country's Unity State where the famine is currently. The United Nations last week declared the famine for the first time in six years. Severe food shortages have been ongoing in the country since 2013. The UN says the famine affects more than a hundred thousand people in South Sudan's Unity State. There are concerns that an additional one million South Sudanese are threatened by starvation. Both the United Nations and United States have blamed the situation not only on the drought - but years of conflict between rival groups.
