[Anchor Lead]The conventional college experience of walking from class to class throughout the day can be a major obstacle for students with disabilities. Oftentimes, these students can really use a helping hand from their classmates. Let’s check it out.[Pkg]Kim Hwan mainly works at home. He studied Western painting in college and graduate school for six years. He graduated a few days ago. Despite the physical obstacles due to his two legs and left arm, Kim could attend school thanks to his friends. In front of a stairway, one of his classmates offers his back to Kim. From the small help of bringing him water for painting, to delivering a meal during lunchtime...friends were everywhere for Kim when he needed help.[Soundbite] Kim Man-seop(Classmate) : "It is like living together. As we work all day long from morning till night, I get him everything he needs in between."They first began as helpers for students with disabilities for one school term in return for government scholarships. But they have eventually become best friends with Kim and continue to help him even after their scholarships ended.[Soundbite] Kim Hwan(Disabled College Student) : "I was grateful when he said that I don't need to feel uncomfortable and lose confidence for receiving help, as it is also helpful for him."The helpers have grown with Kim, overcoming their prejudice against people with disabilities. They want to become lifelong colleagues with students with disabilities through joint projects and exhibitions even after going out into the world.
