In June 2016 the Constitutional Court ruled that the Electoral Commission should obtain all registered voters in South Africa's addresses by the end of June 2018. The commission is also according to the Constitutional Court ruling obliged to ensure that voters are registered in the areas of their residence. Since this ruling, about 3 million out of 26 million registered voters still have outstanding addresses. The Electoral Commission has incomplete and generic address for about 3.7 million voters.
