[Anchor Lead]International fans remain enthusiastic about K-pop. In particular, K-pop music has become a major part of youth culture in Latin America. A K-pop contest was held in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, attracting a lot of attention from local K-pop enthusiasts.[Pkg]Young Brazilians show off their dazzling dance moves to the rapid rhythms of K-pop. It is an occasion for contestants to boast the singing and dancing skills they have honed over time.[Soundbite] (Contest Participant) : "My group consists of friends who are K-pop fans."The festive atmosphere spread through the audience. Long lines formed four hours before the contest, demonstrating the huge popularity of K-pop.[Soundbite] (Contest Participant) : "I like K-pop more than samba, although I live in Brazil."The K-pop contest was hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil. This year's event, the fourth installment of the annual contest, has now become a venue to enjoy K-pop.[Soundbite] Kwon Young-sang(Director, Korean Cultural Center of Brazil) : "They are not mere imitations, but modified versions of K-pop which have taken root locally. We sometimes call it B-pop (Brazilian pop)."Sixteen out of roughly 60 teams have advanced to the finals. The first-prize winner will be given a chance to compete in the KBS K-pop World Festival held in Korea as a representative for South America. Other programs to offer hands-on Korean culinary activities and promote the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games were also held at the theater's entrance, further fanning enthusiasm for the Hallyu Korean wave.
