Third graders at Lee Expressive Arts Elementary School created clay bowls as part of the Empty Bowls Project, an international effort to raise hunger awareness. The bowls will eventually be glazed, finished and sold at a community meal taking place on March 19 at Missouri United Methodist Church. Donations and funds raised by the bowls will go to the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture and their Planting for the Pantry project. The rim of each bowl is imprinted with a “six word story” focusing on hunger written by the third graders. Lee students created their stories after viewing images of hunger and brainstorming hunger-related words.
