A growing number of Koreans are traveling abroad these days,... but the average spending per person isn't that much different from last year. According to the Korea-based Tourism Knowledge & Information System on Tuesday, some ten-and-a-half million Koreans went abroad from January to May this year,... nearly 19 percent higher than the eight-point-eight million recorded during the same period last year. While that's a big jump, their average spending only edged up a third-of-one-percent, less than four U.S. dollars,.. to one-thousand-six dollars per person. The figure did not even reach one thousand dollars per person for the months of January, February and April.Koreans vacationing overseas are watching their wallets compared to 2011... when the average spending per person hit a record high one-thousand-250 dollars.The amount spent per person for the first five months of last year was about eleven percent lower than the previous year,... slumping to a 14-year low.The Korea Tourism Organization says the budget spending trend is being driven by younger Koreans who prefer to travel overseas, but seek out the most economical ways to enjoy their trips.
