Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Danish Prime Minister, was asked about the Nord Stream 2 project.Rasmussen used the summit to raise his concerns about the project on two levels. Firstly, Rasmussen questions whether the project is compatible with the European Union's 'Energy Union'. Secondly, Rasmussen raised the question of whether questions on security also needed to be answered. The project which envisages a pipeline going under the Baltic Sea is highly sensitive on many levels. Views on the project differ widely among EU states. The project could prove divisive both within the EU and further afield. Nord Stream 2 is a wholly private venture that claims to be 'the largest energy infrastructure project in the Northern Hemisphere'. However, projects of this scale are rarely political, even if they are solely funded through private means.
