The Rose Monday carnival parade, the climax of the Cologne Carnival wrapped up on Monday without any unexpected emergencies or mishaps thanks to a strengthened security. Recent Cologne Carnivals have been affected by such offending incidents as sexual assaults and robberies. Therefore, local police beefed up the security ahead of the carnival which has played a big role in the success of the festivities."Not all of the police officers wore uniforms while patrolling the parade. Some were in plain clothes to avoid being noticed. We also increased the number of surveillance cameras during the carnival. As of the end of last year, we have installed 200 cameras in the public areas of Cologne, which enables us to monitor the visitors and vehicles as well as passengers at train stations," said Martina Dressler, spokeswoman of German federal police. To avoid vicious incidents like the sexual assault towards thousands of women at the eve of 2016 New Year, police have especially set up consultant points to provide help for women.
