Sand and dust blown up by strong winds choked a large swathe of northern China, especially Beijing, turning the sky yellow and obscuring vision. The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) continued to issue blue alert against sandstorm at 06:00 Friday. At about 07:00, strong wind started to sweep across Beijing, with gusts reaching 27.1 meters per second and the PM10 concentration surging. At present, the visibility was one to four kilometers. The weather is expected to turn for the better in the afternoon. According to the Beijing Meteorological department, most part of the northern China will experience gentle to strong breeze, with gusts of about 27.1 meters per second. The southern Xinjiang Basin of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia, the eastern part of Gansu Province, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, central-northern part of Shaanxi Province, Shanxi, Beijing and other areas will have dusty weather with floating sand and even sandstorm in some parts of Inner Mongolia and Hebei Province.
