Ride, launched the Indonesian-owned Palapa B communications satellite into orbit. Palapa is a series of communication satellites. They were owned by an Indonesian telecommunication company called Telkom. All the satellites were launched by the U.S., starting with the first in 1976. This made Indonesia become the first developing county to operate its own domestic satellite system. And that's what happened, Today in Space!
