U.S. President Donald Trump told a rally in Huntington, West Virginia, on Thursday (August 3) that the "Russia story" was a "total fabrication."A grand jury has issued subpoenas in connection with a June 2016 meeting that included Trump's son, his son-in-law and a Russian lawyer, two sources told Reuters on Thursday, signaling an investigation is gathering pace into suspected Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.Earlier this week, Trump signed legislation passed by U.S. Congress authorizing sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea. The White House said the signing of that bill sent "clear signal" that the U.S. won't tolerate election interference.During Trump's West Virginia rally, he also invited the state's Democratic Governor Jim Justice onto the stage for a "big announcement."As sources familiar with the plan had earlier indicated, Justice announced his intention to switch his political party from Democrat to Republican.Justice, a billionaire coal and real estate magnate, ran as a conservative Democrat and declined to endorse Hillary Clinton in 2016, the New York Times reported.
