(29 Aug 2017) President Donald Trump says the world is impressed with the work of Texas' emergency operations center in the wake of "monster" Hurricane Harvey. He told state emergency workers in Austin, Texas, that "the job you have done is really special," and that "millions of people appreciate it." Trump added that "the world is watching and the world is very impressed with what you're doing." He spoke during a tour of the devastation caused by Harvey, the first natural disaster of Trump's presidency and a test of his leadership. The American Red Cross said that so far, more than 17,000 people have sought refuge from the flooding. Several deaths have been blamed on the storm. Trump visited Texas on Tuesday, and the White House said his stops in Corpus Christi and Austin were meant to highlight coordination at all levels of government and lay the groundwork for what is expected to be a lengthy recovery after the storm. Trump traveled with the secretaries of health and human services and housing and urban development, and the head of the Small Business Administration.
